Because here in the midwest temperatures can reach double digit negatives, having maternity leave during the winter was one of my favorite things and I was lucky enough to have two winter babies! Maybe you’re more likely to go stir crazy being home with a newborn during winter, but I’m a total home body and thoroughly enjoyed staying in my sweats (sometimes the same ones for days at a time) and cuddling with my babes, fireplace roaring and my ass imprinted on the couch. Baby Blythe is one of those winter babies who arrived in early January :) I’m a little jealous of Blythe because she has the CUTEST nursery decorated with sloths and woven bowls and gorgeous gold wallpaper. Sloths happen to be one of my most favorite animals ever, so when I walked into her nursery and saw one staring back at me, I nearly DIED!

Going through these images, I was reminded how crazy it was becoming a parent for the first time. You walk into the hospital (or maybe you waddle or get wheeled in right?) with this big ‘ole belly and a TON of emotions, and then hours later….sometimes A LOT of hours later….you’re holding this beautiful tiny human that you’re now RESPONSIBLE FOR. It’s crazy. Your life changes so quickly and I remember wondering how in the heck these nurses could let me walk out of there with my firstborn when I didn’t know what I was doing!

But being a parent means you’re learning. Children teach us things about ourselves, about them, about the world….and it’s a journey, not a race. Life is all about the journey. And the journey into parenthood is so special and wonderful and hard and messy and slow and fast all at the same time. There is nothing like it.

Thank you for welcoming me into your BEAUTIFUL home Wenzel family and for letting me photograph Blythe in all her newborn glory! Enjoy the journey of parenthood!
