A Madeline Island Family Session | Wisconsin Lifestyle Family Photographer

The universe works in mysterious ways. I’ve always been a believer but man, the truth is it’s happened too many times in my life that what is meant for me will come.

About a year ago I left Madeline Island, an inhabited island in the Apostle Islands that I’ve visited almost every summer for the past 6+ years, after another successful girl’s weekend. While on the island, I had set intentions for the next year of my business – and one of my intentions was to be back on Madeline Island soon and not just to vacation but to photograph a client there.

Within 3 days after leaving the island, Kristin reached out to me. She and her family of 5 were from Texas but I soon discovered that she had grown up in Wisconsin, and not only that, but she had grown up in Marshfield WI (my home town) for quite a few years before moving away prior to high school. She knew people I knew, and that connection was amazing to me! Her late grandparents had a summer home on Madeline Island and a gift shop there, and are buried on the island, so Madeline Island was very near and dear to her. They were flying in for the Madeline Island Marathon in May 2019 and we arranged for a family session during that time. Now I had to wait for 10 months!

I knew I was so excited to photograph this family on Madeline Island for many reasons, but what I didn’t know was that my children and I would be making new friends. My family ended up staying in their rented guest cabin which was such a heart-felt offer by them that touched my soul, and we were able to hang out a bit and get to know each other, and not rush our session. It’s true that a photographer’s life is really about connection and I’m so grateful for the connection that Madeline Island, social media, and the universe brought together here.

May is a rainy and cold month typically but that didn’t stop us from making a fire, eating smores, skipping rocks, and hanging out on the dock overlooking Lake Superior. Enjoy these images from our Madeline Island Lifestyle Family Session with the Echerd Family! And if you’ve never been, check out one of my many blog posts about my travels to this happy place.
